Product Design

Our primary goal is to help increase the measurable commercial success of our clients’ brands.  To help brands succeed, we must understand the business needs AND motivations of the users.  We take the necessary steps using Product Design to identify the market opportunity, clearly define the problem, and develop a viable solution for that problem and validate the solution with real users. We follow a Design Thinking approach that uses the process of Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. We do market research, stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis, site analytics, and whatever tools are needed to deliver the best way forward.  After taking a deep dive, we can then combine art, science, and technology to create products that are Useful, Usable, and Used.

User Experience Research

Modstar is a User-Centered Design shop. UX Research is where we unearth human insights to guide the application of design.  With this, we provide actionable and meaningful data-driven insights that represent the voice of multiple users. Modstar collaborates across development, design, and marketing teams to evaluate research that improves product definition and drives business goals. Activities include card sorting, A-B testing, multivariate testing, personas, focus groups, etc.

Interaction Design

This is where we synthesize what we know from well-established heuristics, the latest innovations, and any research we’ve been able to conduct or gather.  At Modstar, we are experts in building products that are Effective, Efficient, and Delightful. To validate our work, we build clickable prototypes using technologies such as InVision and Figma. We test these prototypes with users and make necessary refinements to ‘bonsai’ the product to a level where it is market-ready.

Visual Design

With deep insights captured by the Interaction Design process and a great deal of sensitivity, we can deliver artistry.  With Visual Design, Modstar strives to communicate with our client’s users, both information and inspiration.  Choosing the right typography, content, copy, color scheme, etc., is critical to a successful product.

Games

Modstar has a rich history of game development, starting with the international sensation Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? online game. More recently, we created Safety Hero, a web game for The Port Authority of NY & NJ with punchy illustrated backgrounds and characters and captivating gameplay.  We are experts in native mobile apps and web-based platforms.
