CHALLENGE

Create an engaging music platform that would both entertain and educate Sesame Street’s young audience.

SOLUTION

Modstar took our knowledge of E-learning to the next level. We interviewed music composers, children aged 5 to 10, and the stakeholders at Sesame Street to define goals and the best roadmap to realize them. We then created a platform where intrinsic learning was hidden in the playing and experimentation. The music maker application involved selecting a rhythm (African, Indian, Latin, etc.) and then adding melody blocks that featured instruments such as didgeridoo, violin, and accordion. While users made fun songs, they inadvertently learned about bars and measures and hopefully got the ‘music bug.’

RESULTS

Passport Kid’s put Sesame Street at the forefront of emerging social media and was honored with the Smithsonian Institution’s Award for Excellence and placed in the Smithsonian’s Permanent Collection for Innovation.
